Infusions are for leaves, flowers, and aromatic aerial parts — softer material that releases its constituents in hot water. For mineral-rich tonic herbs (nettle, oatstraw, red raspberry), a long overnight infusion in a jar gives much more mineral than a quick cup.

Method cheat sheet
- Standard tea — 1 tsp dried herb per 1 cup boiling water, steep covered 10-15 min. Daily use.
- Medicinal strength — 1 tbsp dried herb per 1 cup, steep 20-30 min covered. For active therapeutic use.
- Long overnight infusion (Susun Weed) — 1 oz (28 g) dried herb per quart (~1 L) boiling water, steep 4-8 hours. For mineral tonics: nettle, oatstraw, red raspberry, comfrey leaf.
- Aromatic herbs — always cover while steeping so volatile oils don't evaporate.
- Cold infusion — mucilaginous herbs (marshmallow, slippery elm) release mucilage in cold water; steep 4-8 hours cold.
