Principles & history

What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of medicine developed by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700s, based on the principle of “like cures like” (similia similibus curentur). A substance that produces symptoms in a healthy person can, in highly diluted form, treat similar symptoms in a sick person.

Remedies are prepared through serial dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking), with potencies denoted as X (decimal), C (centesimal), or LM (fifty-millesimal). Common potencies include 6C, 30C, and 200C for acute self-care; higher potencies are typically reserved for professional prescribing.

The 12 Schuessler tissue salts are a subset of homeopathic remedies prepared from mineral compounds found naturally in the body, used to correct cellular mineral imbalances.
