Pet Herbal Dose Calculator
Weight-based scaling from an adult human dose (150 lb reference) to your pet. Gives you a reasonable starting range — actual dosing varies by species detox pathway, breed sensitivities, and the specific herb. Always verify with a holistic vet.

Dog note: Start at the calculated low dose and observe for 3 days before increasing.
Species notes
- Dogs: Tolerate most herbs well. MDR1-mutation breeds (Collies, Aussies, Shelties) are sensitive to P-glycoprotein substrates. Avoid garlic, onion, tea tree oil (topical), pennyroyal, macadamia, xylitol.
- Cats: Lack glucuronidation. AVOID essential oils (all forms), garlic, onions, St John's Wort, comfrey, pennyroyal, acetaminophen. Safe: catnip, valerian (inhalation), slippery elm, milk thistle, chamomile (very dilute).
- Birds: Extreme respiratory sensitivity. NO essential oils, no diffusers in bird rooms, no avocado, no chocolate/caffeine. Safe: milk thistle seeds, small fresh parsley, slippery elm.
- Horses: Large mass so doses are many times larger than smaller pets. Check FEI/USEF banned substance list before competition — valerian, kava, devil's claw, hops all trigger positive tests.
