Keynote Symptoms

Cardiac remedy — weak, irregular, rapid heart with valvular disease. Cardiac dropsy with edema and scanty urine. Precordial oppression and anxiety. Fatty heart. Pulse rapid and irregular. Acts like a milder Digitalis without cumulative toxicity. Useful in aged hearts.

Comparative Materia Medica

Digitalis has similar cardiac action but more toxic and cumulative. Crataegus is a cardiac tonic but milder. Strophanthus acts on heart but more acutely. Cactus has constricting heart pain.

Material Dose Toxicity

Adonis contains cardiac glycosides (adonitoxin) similar to Digitalis. Toxic in large doses — nausea, vomiting, arrhythmias. Less cumulative than Digitalis. Use potentised forms or low-dose tincture under supervision.
