Keynote Symptoms
Malignant scarlet fever or diphtheria — throat dark, swollen, livid, ulcerated, with fetid discharge. Rapid prostration out of proportion to disease duration. Livid, mottled, purplish skin. Eruption appears but is dark, patchy, does not come out fully. Stupor, delirium. Thin, dark, fetid discharges.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Stupor — cannot be roused. Delirium, muttering. Answers slowly or not at all. Confusion of mind. Indifference.
General Symptoms
Malignant, toxic states with rapid prostration. Worse from morning, open air, light, sitting up. Better from hot drinks, lying on right side.
Physical Symptoms
Throat
Dark red, swollen, livid, ulcerated. Fetid discharge. Diphtheria of the worst type. Tonsils swollen, dark, almost purple. Cannot swallow. Neck glands swollen.
Face
Besotted, stupid expression. Dark, mahogany red. Livid, mottled.
Skin
Eruption dark, livid, patchy — does not fully develop. Purpuric spots. Milliary rash that is dark and scattered. Petechiae.
Fever / Chill / Perspiration
High fever with rapid prostration. Pulse rapid, small, weak. Malignant fever.
Extremities
Profound weakness. Cannot sit up.

Baptisia has septic stupor but less lividity. Lachesis has purple throat but left-sided and jealous. Phytolacca has tonsillitis but less malignant. Apis has throat swelling but with stinging and thirstlessness.
