Keynote Symptoms
Everything is sour — sour-smelling stools, sour vomiting, sour perspiration, sour body. Green, frothy, sour diarrhea like pond scum or frog spawn. Neuralgic pains that are unbearable, forcing the patient to get up and walk about. Left-sided neuralgias. Milk disagrees. Sensation of being neglected, unwanted (the orphan remedy).
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Feels neglected, forsaken, unwanted — the orphan remedy. Sensitive, easily offended. Anxious, restless. Peevish. Discontented. Cannot endure being touched. Dread of a quarrel.
General Symptoms
Everything sours. Worse from rest, every three weeks, change of weather, cold wind, touch, night, warm food, milk. Better from walking, motion, warm air, pressure, open air.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Headache from mental exertion. Worse before menses.
Face
Left-sided neuralgia — unbearable pain, must walk about. Worse at rest, night, cold wind. Tearing pain in malar bones.
Mouth
Toothache during pregnancy. Teeth sensitive to cold.
Stomach
Sour eructations, sour vomiting. Milk disagrees — causes diarrhea and vomiting. Desire for meat, sour things.
Abdomen
Colic — cutting, griping, in babies. Sour stools in infants.
Rectum
Green, frothy, sour diarrhea — like pond scum or frog spawn (the keynote stool). Sour-smelling. Preceded by griping. White stool.
Female Genitalia
Menses too early, dark, pitch-like. Flow more at night and lying down. Thick, dark, acrid leucorrhea. Sore nipples.
Extremities
Neuralgic pains forcing motion. Left-sided. Restless legs.
Skin
Dry, itching. Sour perspiration. Unhealthy.

Comparative Materia Medica
Calcarea carbonica also sours but is fat, sweaty, and chilly. Rheum has sour-smelling children but more screaming. Chamomilla has colicky babies but with anger and one red cheek. Magnesia phosphorica has colic but better from heat and pressure, not from motion.
