Keynote Symptoms
Intensified Mercurius — more destructive, more burning, more tenesmus. Dysentery with persistent, terrible tenesmus — never-get-done feeling, bloody mucous stool, shreds of mucous membrane. Nephritis with albuminuria, blood in urine, tenesmus of bladder. Throat ulcerated with intense swelling and burning. Eyes — iritis with hypopyon.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Anxious, restless. Delirium. Weakness of memory. Loss of will power. Offensive temper.
General Symptoms
Intensified Mercurius picture — more violent, more destructive, more rapid. Worse from evening, night, after stool, cold, damp, swallowing, acids. Better from rest.
Physical Symptoms
Eyes
Iritis with hypopyon. Burning tears. Photophobia intense. Retinitis.
Mouth
Gums swollen, spongy, bleeding. Teeth loose. Salivation profuse, bloody. Metallic taste. Tongue swollen.
Throat
Ulcerated, swollen, dark red. Diphtheria with great swelling and destruction. Burning, constriction. Swallowing very painful — empty swallowing worse than food.
Stomach
Burning. Epigastric tenderness. Nausea, vomiting of bile and blood. Cannot bear touch of clothing.
Abdomen
Bloated, tender. Bruised, sore. Peritonitis.
Rectum
Dysentery — the chief indication. Bloody, slimy stool with shreds of mucous membrane. Terrible tenesmus — never-get-done feeling. Constant urging. Hot, burning stool. Prolapse.
Urinary
Nephritis — albuminuria, blood in urine. Intense tenesmus of bladder. Urine hot, burning, bloody. Scanty. Drops of blood with urine.
Skin
Destructive ulcers. Gangrenous tendency. Erythema.

Constitutional Type
Not constitutional. Used in acute destructive conditions where Merc sol is too mild. Intense tenesmus cases.
Clinical Indications
Dysentery (bloody with tenesmus), nephritis, iritis with hypopyon, diphtheria (destructive), cystitis, rectal tenesmus, ulcerative colitis
Comparative Materia Medica
Mercurius solubilis is milder in every way. Cantharis has urinary tenesmus and burning but less rectal. Aloe has rectal insecurity but less destructive. Arsenicum has burning but more restlessness and thirst for sips.
