Keynote Symptoms
The human thermometer — equally sensitive to heat and cold, has a very narrow comfort zone. Profuse salivation wetting the pillow at night. Metallic taste in mouth. Offensive discharges — breath, sweat, stool. Night sweats that do not relieve. Trembling of tongue and hands. Swollen glands.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Slow answering, hesitating. Suspicious, distrustful. Impulsive, hurried. Restless, anxious at night. Weary of life. Desire to travel. Homicidal impulses.
General Symptoms
Worse from both heat and cold, at night, from sweating, damp weather, lying on right side, drafts. Better from moderate temperature, rest. Tendency to suppuration of all tissues. Offensive discharges. Trembling.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Band sensation around head. Catarrhal headaches with heat. Scalp tense. Exostoses.
Eyes
Lids red, thick, swollen. Profuse acrid lachrymation. Iritis.
Ears
Thick, yellow, offensive otorrhoea. Boils in external canal. Otalgia worse at night.
Nose
Acrid, excoriating coryza. Green, fetid, bloody discharge. Nostrils raw, ulcerated. Nosebleeds.
Mouth
Profuse salivation, especially at night, wetting pillow. Metallic taste. Tongue large, flabby, shows imprint of teeth. Spongy, bleeding gums. Offensive breath. Loosening of teeth.
Throat
Raw, burning, swollen. Quinsy. Ulcers on tonsils, suppurating. Difficulty swallowing. Constant desire to swallow.
Stomach
Intense thirst though mouth is moist. Weak digestion. Hiccough, eructation.
Abdomen
Liver and spleen enlarged. Jaundice. Cutting, colicky pains.
Rectum
Dysentery: never-get-done feeling, constant urging, bloody mucous stool. Stools green, slimy, bloody, offensive. Tenesmus before and after stool.
Urinary
Frequent urging with scanty urine. Albuminuria.
Male Genitalia
Gonorrhoea with green discharge. Prepuce swollen. Ulcers.
Skin
Almost constantly moist. Offensive perspiration. Ulcers with lardaceous base. Vesicular and pustular eruptions. Copper-coloured spots. Itching worse from warmth of bed.

Comparative Materia Medica
Hepar sulphuris also has suppuration but is extremely chilly and sensitive to cold only. Silicea has slow suppuration but is more yielding. Arsenicum has offensive discharges but with restlessness, burning, and desire for warmth.
