Keynote Symptoms
Septic states with pulse-temperature dissociation: rapid pulse with relatively low temperature, or high fever with abnormally slow pulse. Bed feels too hard — must keep moving for relief (like Arnica, but more septic). Horribly offensive lochia, sweat, breath, stool. Restlessness from soreness. All discharges are offensive. Sensation of being beaten and bruised.
Mind & Emotional Symptoms
Loquacious during fever. Delirious, confused. Restless, must constantly move. Feels as if crowded with arms and legs. Anxiety and fear during chill. Thinks she is very wealthy. Whispers in sleep.
General Symptoms
Septic states of any origin. Pulse-temperature dissociation is the keynote. Horribly offensive secretions. Bruised, sore, aching all over. Bed feels too hard. Worse from motion yet must move. Better from changing position, pressure, bandaging, hot bath.
Physical Symptoms
Head
Throbbing headache. Brain feels too large. Bursting sensation. Fan-like motion of nostrils.
Face
Pale, sunken, anxious, pinched. Cold sweat. Cheeks burning red.
Mouth
Tongue large, flabby, fiery red, smooth, dry, cracked. Breath horribly offensive. Taste terribly fetid, as if mouth were full of pus.
Stomach
Nausea, vomiting of bile, coffee-ground material. Cannot keep anything down. Vomiting of water when it becomes warm in stomach.
Abdomen
Distended, tender. Abscess in abdomen. Peritonitis.
Rectum
Diarrhea — horribly offensive, brown-black, painless, involuntary. Constipation with complete inertia of rectum. Large, hard, black stool.
Female Genitalia
Puerperal sepsis — the main indication. Lochia suppressed or offensive. Septic abortion. Puerperal fever.
Chest
Heart rapid, out of proportion to temperature. Heart feels tired. Cardiac failure in septic states.
Extremities
Aching, bruised, sore all over. Bed feels too hard. Great restlessness.
Skin
Pale, cold, covered with cold sweat. Bedsores. Abscesses. Varicose veins.
Fever / Chill / Perspiration
Septic fever. Cold chills with high temperature. Pulse-temperature dissociation. Profuse cold sweat. Hectic fever.

Changing position, pressure, bandaging, hot bathing, rocking, walking, stretching limbs
Worse From
Cold and damp, sitting, before storms, motion (yet must move), septic conditions
Constitutional Type
Not primarily constitutional — used in acute septic states. Can be used as an intercurrent remedy in chronic cases with septic tendency.

Septicemia, puerperal sepsis, surgical infections, abscess, blood poisoning, typhoid states, bedsores, offensive wounds, post-operative fever
Comparative Materia Medica
Arnica also has bruised feeling with bed feeling hard, but lacks the septic component. Baptisia has septic states with stupor and foul discharges but less restlessness. Rhus tox has restlessness and must keep moving but lacks the sepsis and offensive discharges.
